Why Does Indoor Air Quality In Schools Matter?

Children breathe more air in proportion to their body weight than adults. On average, 2,000 gallons per day.

Asthma is the number one cause of absenteeism in schools, accounting for 14 million days annually.

Good indoor air quality is shown to improve the performance of students and staff.

Large Space Air Solution

The Problem With

Large Spaces

Classroom ventilation receives a lot of attention, while larger rooms are thought to be cleaner.

In fact, these larger rooms are often much more difficult to control, due to high traffic. Some schools try and address these rooms by using four or five classroom units, which is largely ineffective and very expensive.

1,500 Sq Ft Of HEPA Filtration

The Apex 2.0 is by far the best large space air solution a school can buy. Gymnasiums, cafeterias, and all the other high traffic areas that are a nightmare to ventilate can now receive 3 ACH, the same as a classroom would.

“Assuming a 180 day school year, the average student generates $65.34 in funding for the school district per day. Therefore the total loss of funding associated with student absenteeism each year is $10.7 billion dollars in the US.”

Classroom Air Solution

The Problem With Classrooms

Classrooms are notoriously difficult to ventilate.

Often overcrowded and outdated, airflow is rarely at a satisfactory level. Many schools have begun implementing air purifiers but are trying to ventilate a classroom with a unit designed for your bedroom.

TOP OF ITS CLASS

Poor indoor air quality causes asthma, migraines, and illness among students. Not to mention it makes it difficult to learn. It’s time for a classroom air purifier that was actually built for a crowded classroom, not your living room.

Powerful Yet Portable

Schools are more than just classrooms and a gym. For the nurse’s office, the principal’s office and all the other offices’ parents try and avoid, the Mesa series has them covered. Purposefully powerful, yet surprisingly silent, and ideal for filtering intimate rooms.

If you can’t tell, helping schools with their indoor air quality is what we’re all about.

 FAQ’s

  • All BOX Pure Air units meet FDA, EPA, and IEST certification standards. All of our HEPA filters meet the U.S. HEPA certification standards which are the most rigid in the world. All units comply with FDA, OSHA, and ASHRAE guidelines.

  • The Peak unit ranges from 56 DB on low to 72 DB on high. Most units sit at a medium setting of 63 DB during class time, equivalent to a white noise machine. If absolute silence is necessary we recommend letting the unit run on a lower setting and turning it up between class times.

  • Regardless of which unit is being used, we recommend replacing the antimicrobial and carbon filters every 6 months. This recommendation assumes the unit is running 24/7 and the actual may vary depending on use. For the HEPA filter, Peak and Mesa HEPA filters should be changed once every 4 years, and for the Apex 2.0, the HEPA filter only needs to be changed every 7 years.

Our Apex 2.0 unit is equipped with a filter gauge that tells you exactly when a filter needs to be changed. Also, any unit can be outfitted with Smart Fleet Management technology to monitor all filter performance levels.

  • No, our units do not use a UV light on purpose. UV light units have been shown to be ineffective at best and at worst emit a potentially dangerous level of ozone into the air. While UV kills bacteria, increasing ventilation and using HEPA filtration has shown to perform better at reducing airborne particles.
